Ich sitze hier und lasse mir ein Bad ein, heute war es soweit und ich konnte neben all meinen Abschlussarbeiten für Babsy, Alumni, Vereine etc. nach langen Tagen endlich final noch schnell im Reisebüro vorbeihuschen und die Flüge final buchen und bezahlen. Jetzt ist es also wirklich soweit: Meine kleine halbe Weltreise - ich komme!
Ich kann es kaum fassen, ich bin sehr müde und daher freue ich mich heute einfach nur noch aufs Relaxen.
Meine kleine halbe Weltreise, sie führt mich in 3 Monaten nach Neuseeland, Australien und Afrika. 3 Kontinente in 3 Monaten, ein Traum geht in Erfüllung. Die Route verläuft über Bangkok, wo ich noch ein paar Tage family-meetup habe, genial. Danach ist die erste Station direkt Auckland. Hier gerne der Überblick über die gesamte Reise:

I am sitting here while filling the bathtube, today it was the day i could manage all the work for Babsy, Alumni, the Clubs etc. after some long days finally i went to the travel agency to book and pay the flights. Now i am really ready: My small half worldtravel - i am coming!
I cant believe it, i am tired and so i am just looking forward relaxing a little.
My little half world-travel will guide me to New Zealand, Australia and Africa. 2 Continents in 3 months, a dream coming true. The route goes via Bangkok, where i will have a small family-meetup, genious. After the first station will bei Auckland. Here is a little overview of the complety journey:
Die letzten Tage waren anstrengend und erfüllend zugleich. Viel Arbeit war noch zu tun, Dinge aufzugleisen, Arbeiten zu vollenden oder auch anzufangen etc. um dies überhaupt zu ermöglichen. Gleichzeitig kam mir so viel Liebe, Verständnis und Freude sowie Mitgefühl entgegen von meinen lieben, so geschätzten und unglaublich tollen Freunden und Kollegen und meiner Familie und meinem Herzblatt. Es war fast schon wie eine Art "Abschiedstour" statt eine Party zu schmeissen (die kommt dann später :) im Sommer - wenn wir die Wohnung endlich einweihen hehe :)) - also meine lieben Freunde, ihr könnt euch schon einmal drauf freuen!

The last days where exhausting and fullfilling the same time. There was a lot of work to do, manage things, ending work and starting some etc. to fullfill my drea. The same time i was confronted with so much love, understanding and happy thoughts of my beloved friends and family and my love. It was like a bye-tour instead of a party (this one is coming later :) in summer - when the appartment is ready for a new-home party hehe :)) - so my dear friends, you can already looking forward to it!

Oh mein Gott, nur noch ein paar Stunden bis Oli mich abholt und zum Flughafen bringt. Ich bin völlig aufgewühlt und weiss, dass ich ihn, meine Familie, meine Freunde... unendlich vermissen werde. Und doch pocht mein Herz auch vor Aufregung und Freude... Es kann losgehen!!!

Auckland
Gegen Mittag erreichten wir Auckland. Nach ein paar coolen Movies im Flugzeug (z.B. ein deutscher Film namens 303 – sehr empfehlenswert, ein «feel-good-movie») fuhr ich mit dem Flughafenbus in die Stadt. Dort sprang ich erstmal ins Hostel (Base). Ein 8-er Zimmer, sehr preiswert und völlig i.O. 😊. Ich machte mich aus dem Haus um noch rasch, wie schon zu Hause geplant, neue Hiking-Schule zu kaufen sowie einen neuen Rucksack, da meiner leider beim Flug kaputt ging. Nachdem alles besorgt war ging ich gemütlich auf den Auckland Sky Tower um dort, wie schon in Bangkok 😊, bei geilem Apple Pie mit Vanilleeis und einer Art Apérol-Spritz die Tagessicht, einen atemberaubenden Sonnenuntergang und die Nachtsicht zu geniessen. Unvergesslich – wunderschön – und fast unmöglich zu verarbeiten 😊.
Der heutige Tag stand somit ganz im Zeichen von Auckland und seiner wunderbaren Lage am Hauraki Golf. Nebenbei bemerkt: 328 m Höhe erwarten dich beim Sky-Tower.
Hier geniesst man den Blick über die ganze Stadt und den gesamten Hauraki Golf mit seinen vielen Inseln und dem Vulkan Rangitoto bis zur Coromandel Halbinsel. In der allenfalls noch verbleibenden Freizeit lädt die Queen Street im Herzen der Stadt zum Bummeln ein. Aber: ein Tag in der Stadt reicht vollkommen aus. Ich spazierte ins Hostel, guckte mir dies noch etwas an und machte es mir dann im Zimmer gemütlich. Der nächste Tag stand unter dem Zeichen des Nordens 😊 – und ich war schon total aufgeregt. Gute Nacht!!

Around lunchtime we reached Auckland. After some cool movies as usual in the plane (e.g. a german movie – 303 – really i can recommend this one) i went with one of the airport-buses into the city center. I jumped into my hostel (Base). An 8-room, very reasonable and absolutely ok 😊. I went out to buy the new hiking shoes (alredy for Tanzania) and to get a new backpack as mine was broken during the flight :(. After i had all i needed i went up to the Auckland Sky Tower to enjoy, like in Bangkok alrready, the dayview, an incredible sunset and the nightview, while enjoying an apple-pie with vanille-ice cream and a kind of Apérol-Spritz. Unforgettable – wonderful and unable to explain 😊.
So today was all about Auckland and its wonderful location on the Hauraki Gulf. Incidentally: 328 m altitude await you at the Sky Tower.
Here you can enjoy the view over the whole city and the entire Hauraki Gulf with its many islands and the volcano Rangitoto to the Coromandel Peninsula. In the remaining leisure time Queen Street invites you to stroll in the heart of the city. But: a day in the city is enough.
I went back tot he hostel and had a look around before i made myself comfortable in the room. The next day was dedicaded tot he north 😊 and i was quite excited to it. Good night!!

Auckland nach Paihia
Fahrt in den winterlosen Norden - Heimat von 144 Inseln.
Es ging früh los – sehr früh. Ich hatte mir den Wecker auf 6.15h gestellt damit ich ganz sicher um 7 dort bin. Da ich aber kaum schlafen konnte bin ich um 5.50h bereits ins Badezimmer, hab mich fertig gemacht und wollte noch rasch irgendwo frühstücken. Ich lief die Strasse hinunter bis zum Oakley Store (Nr. 99 Queen Street). Ein wenig weiter vorne gab es eine tolle Bäckerei und so kam ich zu meinem Tripple-Espresso 😊 das half. Aufgeregt wartete ich auf den Bus während ich frühstückte und immer mehr Leute auftauchten. Dann kam der Bus und es ging sehr speditiv was eine pünktliche Abfahrt möglich machte. Ich war froh und er erklärte uns auch, dass 7 Leute fehlten und das ein Grund war, warum man auch, wenn man auf der Warteliste landet, trotzdem beim Bus sein sollte um zu sehen, ob es klappt 😊. Das beruhigte immerhin etwas denn diese Frage brannte mir schon unter den Fingern.
Bei der Fahrt über die Harbour Bridge gewinnt man einen ersten Überblick über die größte Stadt Neuseelands, die immer wieder mit Sydney verglichen wird. Ähnlichkeiten wie der riesige Naturhafen, der bis ins Stadtzentrum reicht und die Harbour Bridge legen diesen Gedanken nahe. An den Wochenenden wimmelt es dort von bunten Segelschiffen, was Auckland auch den Beinamen „City of Sails“ eingebracht hat. Errichtet und geplant wurde Auckland auf dem Auckland Vulkanfeld, welches aus 50 Vulkankegeln besteht.
Von Auckland aus fuhren wir in Whangarei Falls Richtung Norden und kamen gegen Mittag in der Bay of Islands an. Wir übernachteten im Paihia Pipi Patch Hostel (Base) in einem Schlafsaal mit 8 Zimmern. Die Herberge war recht nett und abends gab es eine Ibiza-Party, an der wir teilnahmen.
Northland ist reich an Geschichte und Maori-Kultur und mit seinem kristallklaren Wasser, den riesigen Kauri-Wäldern und den zahlreichen Inseln, die es zu erkunden gilt. Ich entschied mich, direkt nach der Ankunft die Tour «Dolphin Eco Experience» zu machen, um mit den Delphinen zu schwimmen. Zum Glück hatten wir bei der Tour auch die Chance, das berühmte Loch im Felsen zu sehen, was großartig war.
Die Tour begann um 12.30 Uhr und wir gingen mit dem Boot mit zwei ausgezeichneten Reiseführern aus. Wir haben den ersten Schwarm von Delphinen mit Babys gesehen, und das Gesetz erlaubt es nicht, mit ihnen zu schwimmen, wenn Babys in der Nähe sind. Mehr zu erwähnen war eine schwierige Situation, da ein totes Baby von der Mutter einige Wochen auf der Oberfläche gehalten wurde. Dies ist ihre Art der Trauer und war ein berührender Moment.
Nachdem wir eine weitere Chance weit draußen hatten, schon nahe am Loch im Felsen, und wir sahen mehr als 30 oder 50 von ihnen, wie sie herumsprangen und schwammen, aber da das Meer raff und wild war, haben wir es vom Boot aus genossen.
Nachdem wir zurückgekommen waren, mussten wir uns bereits auf das BBQ vorbereiten, das wir gebucht hatten. Ich traf hier wirklich nette Mädchen, mit denen ich eine coole Party-Nacht hatte, Christine, meine Buskameradin aus Deutschland, und dann auch Sandra aus der Schweiz sowie Laurie aus Frankreich. Um Mitternacht fielen wir ins Bett und suchten Schlaf.

Auckland to Paihia
Journey to the winterless north - home to 144 islands.
It started early - very early. I had set the alarm clock to 6.15h so I'm sure there at 7. But since I could hardly sleep, I'm already in the bathroom at 5.50 am, got ready and wanted to have breakfast somewhere quickly. I walked down the street to Oakley Store (# 99 Queen Street). A little further up there was a great bakery and so I came to my triple espresso 😊 that helped. Excited, I waited for the bus while I had breakfast and more and more people showed up. Then the bus came and it was very fast which made a punctual departure possible. I was glad and he also explained to us that 7 people were missing and that was one reason why you should still be on the bus when you're on the waiting list to see if it works 😊. After all, that calmed something because this question was already burning under my fingers.
When driving over the Harbor Bridge you gain an initial overview of the largest city in New Zealand, which is compared to Sydney again and again. Similarities such as the huge natural harbor that reaches into the city center and the Harbor Bridge suggest this idea. On the weekends it teems with colorful sailing ships, which Auckland has also earned the nickname "City of Sails". Auckland was built and planned on the Auckland volcanic field, which consists of 50 volcanic cones.
Departing Auckland, we stopped at Whangarei Falls on our way North, arriving in the Bay of Islands around midday. We stayed at the Paihia Pipi Patch hostel (Base) in a 8 room dorm. The hostel was quite nice and in the evening there was an Ibiza-Party which we participated.
Northland is rich in history and Maori culture and with its crystal clear water, huge kauri forests, and plentiful islands to explore – i decided to do directly after arrival the tour «Dolphin Eco Experience» to swim with the dolphins. Lucky as we where the tour gave us also the chance to see the famous hole in the rock which was awesome.
The tour started at 12.30pm and we went out with the boat with two excellent tour guides. We saw the first swarm of dolphines witch babys and so the law does not allow to swim with them, when there are babies around. More to mention was a hard situation, there was a dead baby that was kept on the surface by the mother for some weeks. This is their way of griefing and was a touching moment.
After we had another chance far outside already close to the hole in the rock and we saw more than 30 or 50 of them jumping and swimming around, but as the sea was raff and wild we enjoyed it from the boat.
After we came back we had already to prepaire fort he BBQ we had booked.I met really nice girls here which i had a cool Party-night with, Christine who was my bus mate from germany and then also Sandra from Switzerland as well as Laurie from France. Around midnight we fell into te bed seeking for sleep.

Cape Reinga
Die Cape Reinga Tour war gebucht, um 7.15h war Einsteigen angesagt für eine lange Tagestour. Los ging es via unzähliger abwechselnd schöner Landschaften zu den Giant kauri trees im Puketi Wald und dann direkt weiter zum Sandboarding beim Te Paki Stream, weisse Sanddünen mit feinstem Sand – ein Traumanblick. Nachdem wir es alle «gewagt» hatten ging die Fahrt weiter zum wunderschönen Cape Reinga Leuchtturm mit unglaublicher Aussicht wo sich auch das Tasmanische Meer und der Pazifik treffen. Dort unterwegs ein «Schockmoment». Als Christin im Rucksack nach etwas suchte kam plötzlich eine (meeeeega grossee!!!) Spinne zum Vorschein (Panik im Bus eh klar oder 😊 ) wie sich herausstellte war es eine White-tailed spider (https://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/conditions-and-treatments/accidents-and-injuries/bites-and-stings/spider-bites), eine der wenigen, giftigen Arten in Neuseeland. Unser Buschauffeur machte sie rasch kaputt. Natürlich war sie den ganzen Tag Gesprächsstoff und bescherte uns noch den einen oder anderen «Hühnerhaut»-Moment.
Heiss war es an diesem Tag auch und so waren wir nach dem Rückweg vom Cape froh wieder im klimatisierten Bus zu sitzen nach unglaublich schönen Bildern die wir dort schiessen konnten. Der vorletzte Stop war dann der Ninety Mile Beach (der eigentlich nur 88km hat 😊) wo es unglaublich windig war. Alle zurück im Bus hiess es dann Zwischenstopp für Fish & Chips die wir gemütlich und genüsslich zu Dritt teilten, als Apéro 😊 hihi. Im Hotel angekommen machten wir auf 19.15h zum Essen ab und da es anfing zu regnen nahmen wir die drittbeste Bar 😊 dort gab es Burger und Bier bzw. Wein. Eine tolle Dame, Nat, startete mit small talk mit uns, wie sich später herausstellte war sie nicht seltsam weil sie immer alles vergass, sondern erzählte uns von ihrer Hirnblutung die sie im September 2017 hatte. Eine spezielle Begegnung die wir alle sehr schätzen, da Nat eine lebensfrohe und lustige Person war und wir es toll fanden, sie kennengelernt zu haben. Völlig K.O. ging es dann aber nur noch ins Bett, wo ich jetzt noch Tagebuch bzw. Reisebericht schreibe, bevor es dann noch eine Telefonrunde mit meinen Liebsten gibt und ich ins Bett falle. Der morgige Tag ist noch offen – ich vermute, schlafen wäre eine gute Idee 😊!! Good night my dears!

Cape Reinga
The Cape Reinga Tour was booked, at 7.15 am boarding was announced for a long day trip. It started via countless alternating beautiful landscapes to the giant kauri trees in the Puketi forest and then directly to the sandboarding at the Te Paki Stream, white sand dunes with the finest sand - a dream sight. After we had all "dared" we went on to the beautiful Cape Reinga lighthouse with incredible views where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific meet. There on the way a "shock moment". When Christin was looking for something in her backpack, a (meeeeega big !!!) spider suddenly appeared (panic in the bus anyway clear or 😊) as it turned out it was a White-tailed spider (https://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/conditions-and-treatments/accidents-and-injuries/bites-and-stings/spider-bites), one of the few poisonous species in New Zealand. Our bush driver quickly broke her. Of course she was talking all day long and gave us one or the other "chicken skin" moment.
It was hot that day too and so we were happy to be back in the air-conditioned bus after the return from the Cape after incredibly beautiful pictures we could shoot there. The penultimate stop was then the Ninety Mile Beach (which actually has only 88km 😊) where it was incredibly windy. All back in the bus it was then stopover for fish and chips we shared comfortably and relish to third, as aperitif 😊 hihi. Arrived at the hotel we went to 19.15h to eat and since it started to rain we took the third best bar 😊 there was a burger and beer or wine. A great lady, Nat, started with small talk with us, as it turned out later she was not weird because she always forgot everything, but told us about her brain hemorrhage that she had in September 2017. A special encounter that we all greatly appreciate, as Nat was a fun and funny person and we loved having met her. Totally K.O. But then it went only to bed, where I write now diary or travel report, before there is still a telephone round with my sweetheart and I fall into bed. Tomorrow is still open - I suppose sleeping would be a good idea 😊 !! Good night my dears!

Zurück nach Auckland
Ein klassischer Reisetag – da ich die Delphin-Tour nicht nochmals machen wollte, sondern lieber später einen Versuch wagen würde in Kaikoura, nach Sophias Empfehlungen, konnte ich ausschlafen. Mein Körper war froh darum. Um 10h stand ich dann endlich mal gemütlich auf und machte mich auf die Suche nach Kaffee. Gemeinsam mit Sandra und Christin tranken wir so noch gemütlich Kaffee bei einem der Restaurants unten beim Pier wo die Boote starteten.
Dann fuhren wir verspätet ab, denn der Bus hatte tatsächlich einen Platten – der musste erst einmal geflickt werden. In Auckland angekommen hatten wir ein super chinesisches Abendessen. Zwar in der höheren Preisklasse, aber das darf auch mal sein 😊 Sandra und ich genossen es in jedem Fall und hatten einen lustigen und geselligen Abend. Leider war das w-lan überall eine Katastrophe und auch hier im Hostel Nomads hatte ich keine Chance für eine richtige Verbindung (zum Hochladen von Fotos etc.), das war sehr nervig und machte mich langsam madig :/. Ich hoffte, dass es bald mal klappen würde, denn sonst wird auch das Tagebuch schwierig…

Back to Auckland
A classic travel day – as i decided not to do the dolphins tour again but prefered to do it later on in Kaikoura concerning to Sophia’s recommendation, i was able to sleep a bit longer. My body was happy about that. At 10am i went up and searched a coffee. Together with Sandra and Christin weh ad a cup of coffee in a nice restaurant near the pier where the boats use to start.
Then we headed on, a bit with a delay as the bus had a flat wheel – that had to be done frist. Back in Auckland we had a fantastic dinner, a bit in a higher price segment but that was definitely worth it 😊 Sandra and me had a good time with fun. Unfortunately the wifi was really bad and also in the hostel Nomads there was no chance to get a good connection (to load up pics etc.) that was a unhappy situation and made me feel bad ;/. I was hoping, that it would change somehow during the next days because otherwise the diary would get complicated…

Auckland nach Hot Water Beach
Verbringe den Nachmittag spazierend oder mit dem Kayak zur Cathredral Cove und dann versinke im natürlichen Heissbad bei Hot Water Beach!
Wir fuhren runter Richtung der Coromandel Halbinsel und hatten den Nachmittag bei Hot Water Beach (einer der Top 10 Strände nach Lonely Planet) wo wir mit Handtuch rausgingen um bei Ebbe unser eigenes Loch im Sand zu graben um einen Hot Pool zu kriegen. Wir hatten nicht sooo viel Zeit aber hatten eine tolle Zeit unsere eigenen Löcher zu buddeln und auch in andere zu springen. Das Wasser kann mehr als 65° celsius kriegen und kommt einfach hoch an die Oberfläche beim buddeln was die Möglichkeit gibt eigene Löcher als Thermalbäder zu nutzen. Das geht nur um 2 am Vormittag oder dann wieder um 2 Uhr nachts und so hat man nur 2 Mal am Tag für ca. eine Stunde die Möglichkeit, dass zu machen. Danach machten wir eine Wanderung zur Cathredral Höhle, die ist normalerweise nur zu Fuss oder mit dem Kayak erreichbar. Eswar ein netter Spaziergang runter und ich hatte dabei eine super Unterhaltung mit David aus Deutschland der gerade seit einem halben Jahr unterwegs war, ziemlich beeindruckend. Der Abend war ganz nett, ich hatte einen schnellen Imbiss und ging schon um 8 ins Bett (ich hatte ja kein Telefon da das W-Lan nicht funktionierte und auch sonst keine Telefonverbindung bestand) und schlief sofort ein.
Zusammenfassend: Der wunderwolle Standabschnitt ist super zum Schwimmen, Meer-Kayak und Delphine beobachten, wenn man Glück hat.

Auckland to Hot Water Beach
Spend the afternoon walking or kayaking to Cathedral Cove, and then soak in the natural springs at Hot Water Beach!
We headed down towards the Coromandel Peninsula and spent the afternoon at Hot Water Beach (rated one of the top ten beaches in the world by Lonely Planet) where you can head out with your shovel at low tide to dig your own hot pool in the sand. We had not so much time but anyway enjoyed the time really well digging our holes and jumping into other one’s as well. The water can get more than 65° Celsius and is coming up on the surface to give people the chance of diffing their holes and therefore their own thermalbaths. This is only possible from 2am or 2pm so only two chances per day for about an hour. After that we did a hike not far at the beautiful coast down to the Cathedral Cove, in general it is accessible only on foot or by kayak. It was a nice walk down and i had a good chat with David from germany who was already on tour for half a year which is quite impressive. The evening was quite nice, i just had a quick meal and went towards to bed at around 8pm (not having phone access due to no wifi and no connection at all) and fell aslep quickly.
To sum it up:This beautiful coastal spot is great for swimming, sea kayaking, and spotting dolphins if you’re lucky.

Hot Water Beacht nach Waitomo
Nach einem frühen Start am Morgen unser erster Stop war eine Pause bei L&P, die erste Soft-Drink Firme in Neuseeland die später von Coca Cola gekauft wurde. Natürlich konnte ich nicht widerstehen und probierte eine Flasche. Danach ging es zum Karangahake Scenic Reservat um ein wenig Natur zu sehen, Hängebrücken und Neuseelands Goldgräber-Geschichte. Es kam wie es kommen musste… wir verirrten uns ein wenig aber fanden zum Glück noch pünktlich den Weg zurück. Zum Glück waren unsere Jungs dabei die mit guter Orientierung punkten konnten.
Danach ging es nach Waitomo («wai» heisst Wasser, «tomo» heisst Höhle) wo wir die Chance hatten die weltberühmten Waitomo Glühwürmchen-Höhlen zu sehen. Da wir abenteuerlich waren, war es die Chance eine Untergrunderfahrung zu machen, die zu einer der Top-Attraktionen in Neuseeland gehört mit dem legendären Black Water Rafting Co. Das Rafting ging 5 Stunden und die meiste Zeit waren wir im Wasser. Glücklicherweise gab es ein paar Pausen wo wir heisse Schokolade, Müsliriegel und heissen Tee bekamen. Wir hatten auch super tolle Guides nebenbei bemerkt 😊. Für mich selbst war das Beste, neben den beeindruckenden Glühwürmchen selbst natürlich, das herabseilen in einer sehr engen Höhle und einen Wasserfall hochzuklettern. Es war unglaublich anstrengend aber eine absolute Lebenserfahrung die ich sicher NIE vergesse. Nach diesem mega Tag habe ich unglaublich gut geschlafen.

After an early start, our first stop was a break at L&P, the first soft-drink company in New Zealand which was bought by Coca Cola. Of course i could not resist and bought a bottle to try it. We then head on and stopped at the Karangahake Scenic Reserve to explore a native bush-clad gorge, swing bridges and a bit of New Zealand’s gold mining history. As it had to come… we were a bit lost on our way but luckily found the way back soon. Thanks to our guys which had a good orientation.
Next, we went on onto Waitomo ('wai' meaning water, 'tomo' meaning hole) where we had the chance to visit the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. As we felt adventurous, it was our chance to go underground and experience one of our top rated NZ activities with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. The Rafting went on for 5 hours and we spend most of the time in the pretty cold water but where lucky getting hot chocolate and muesli bars and tea during the tour. We had great guides by the way 😊. For me the most spectacular, beside the glow worms itself, was going down with climbing equipment through a very narrow hole and climbing up a waterfall. It was quite exhausting but for sure a lifetime experience i will never forget. After that day i really slept fucking good 😊.

Waitomo nach Rotorua
Wir starteten den Tag mit einer kleinen Wanderung durch das Ruakuri Reserve und hatten einen Frühstücksstop in Long Black Café bevor es weiterging nach Rotorua. Dann kam ein für mich mega wichtiger Stop – das Hobbiton Movie Set. Die Führung ging rund 2 Stunden und wir hatten Top Wetter und ich fühlte mich wie mitten im Film, alles ist so wunderschön und detailgetreu gemacht, ein Erlebnis wie kein Anderes und wir konnten am Schluss sogar im Shires Rest ein Bier trinken.
Dann hatte ich zudem das Tamaki Marae mitgebucht, Tamaki Maori Village ist DIE Möglichkeit die Maori-Kultur richtig zu erleben. Wir kamen an und hatten ein paar Aktivitäten, unter anderem sangen wir im Chor das tolle Lied «A Haka Mana» das uns die ganze Reise lang begleiten würde. Es gab nach der Maori-Erfahrung mit verschiedenen Aktivitäten das berühmte Hangi und ein Konzert des Maori-Dorfes. Beim Eintreffen mussten auch wir unseren «chief» wählen der für die Zeit vor Ort für uns verantwortlich war und wir sangen als Dank «We are the Champions» von Queen. Es war echt Hammer! In riesigen Schlafsälen mit bis zu 17 Personen übernachteten wir. Davor aber genossen wir noch so richtig die Hot Pots und wärmten uns im heissen Wasser da es relativ kühl war.

Waitomo to Rotorua
We started the day with a walk through the Ruakuri Reserve and a breakfast stop at the Long Black Café before heading off toward Rotorua. Along the way, we stopped ath the Hobbiton Movie Set. The tour was about 2 hours and we had amazing weather. I felt like in the middle of the movie, everything was made with so much love and passion, every detail is perfect, an experience like no other. At the end we had the chance to have a beer at the Shires Rest.
After that i had also booked the Tamaki Marae, Tamaki Maori Village is THE chance to experience the maori-culture. We arrived and had some activities like singing the famos song «A Haka Mana» in a chorus. That song was sang along the whole travel. After the maori-experience weh ad the chance to taste the traditional Maori hangi (feast) and a beautiful concert. As we arrived we had to choose a « chief » that was responsilble for us during our stay and as a thank you we sang «We are the champions » by Queen. It was really amazing ! I big dorms with up to 17 people we had our overnight stay. Before sleeping we enjoyed the Hot Pots there and warmed up a bit in the hot water as it was quite cold.
Für Tamaki Maori Village mussten wir ein Willkommenslied singen - zuerst probierten wir es mit The Killers :) - dann wurde es aber Queen weil es einfacher war. Und während des Besuchs im Dorf sangen wir das tolle Maori-Lied "A haka mana" - hört mal rein :)!

Rotorua nach Taupo
Die erste Station am Morgen war das geothermale Gebiet von Te Puia, dort konnten wir Neuseeland grössten Geysir Pohotu bestaunen ("Lady Knox" ist zeitabhängig) und einen echten Kiwi sehen. Das Gebiet liegt inmitten des alten Siedlungsgebiets der Maori und gehört zu den am meisten besuchten, touristischen Höhepunkten Neuseelands. Es dampft und raucht aus allen Fugen und die Luft ist voll von Schwefelgeruch. Wir durften Eier essen die inmitten eines der Hot Pots gekocht wurden 😊 Dann ging es weiter Richtung Taupo. Ich hatte mich angemeldet für den Fallschirmsprung (Skydive) und freute mich. Davor stoppten wir noch bei den Huka-Wasserfällen. Taupo ist bekannt für Abenteuer-Aktivitäten wie z.B. Skydiving, Bungy Jumping, Jet Boat und Segeln.
Dann war es soweit, nach den Huka Falls ging es direkt zum Skydive. Es war DAS Mega-Erlebnis überhaupt. Ich sprang aus 15'000 ft auch einem Flugzeug - der Taupo Skydive. Das Gefühl ist unbeschreiblich, das Video war der Hammer. Ein Traum ging in Erfüllung und ich kam voller Glücksgefühle an in unserem Hostel. Es ging aber direkt weiter zur Baray Segeln und dort wartete schon meine liebe Sophie auf mich die ich endlich auf der Reise treffen konnte. Sie auf dem Weg hoch, ich auf dem Weg runter. Ein besseres Babsy-Meeting hätten wir nicht machen können 😊 lachlach. Der Tag verging so wie im Flug und wir hatten einen wundervollen Abend. Wir mussten früh ins Bett denn am nächsten Tag kam DIE Wanderung…

Rotorua to Taupo
The first station in the morning was the geothermal reserve of Te Puia with New Zealands largest geyser and we were able to see a real live Kiwi bird. Te Puia lies in the middle of an old seddlement-area oft he maori and belongs tot he most visited, touristic highlights of NZ. There is dust and smoke everywhere and the smell of Schwefel is all around you. We there had eggs that had been boiled in a hot pot there 😊. Then we went on for Taupo. I had signed for the Taupo Skydive and was excited. Before that we had a stop at the Huka Falls. Taupo is rightly known as the adventure capital of the North Island with optional activities on offer such as skydiving, bungy jumping, jet boating, sailing.
Then the moment had come and it was THE magic moment of all. I jumped out of a plane from 15'000 feet. The feeling is amazing, you cannot find any words to descrive it. A drem had come true and full of lucky feelings i came to the hostel. But we had to move directly on for the Baray Sailing because Sophia was waiting for me already. It was our chance to meet us because she was on her way up and me down, a better Babsy-Meeting was not possible 😊 hihi. The day wen over so fast and we had a wonderful evening. We had to go to bed early because the next day THE hike was waiting for us…

Tongariro-Crossing
Es ging enorm früh los – um 5.20 Uhr fuhren wir ab mit dem Bus – Es war Zeit für einen richtigen Epic-Moment, das spektakuläre Tongariro Crossing!!
Eine Wanderung, 19.4 Kilometer, 2 Freundinnen, 1 Ziel: Es zu schaffen!
Die wunderschöne Landschaft aus dem Film «Herr der Ringe» umgab uns, wir starteten die Wanderung um 7h am Morgen und hatten unglaubliche Landschaft rund um uns – die sagenhafte Landschaft der Filmwelt umgab uns und die Felder von Mordor und der Mount Doom waren bezaubernd. Als wir den Gipfel gestürmt hatten waren wir atemlos, vor Freude und Glück sprangen wir herum (wir waren die Einzigen 😊 haha). Direkt danach die wunderschönen Seen und der Blue Lake – kurz vor Ende hatten wir unser Mittagessen in der Sonne, welches wir am Vorabend im Supermarkt gekauft hatten (Pick’n’Save – übrigens ein super Tipp). Die letzten 2 Stunden nach unten waren entspannt - so schafften wir es um halb 3 bereits zurück zu sein bei den Bussen. Im Bus schliefen wir sofort ein 😊 nach so viel Action der letzten Tage und diesem Mega-Hike waren wir natürlich völlig durch. Zurück wollten wir aber noch etwas entspannen und so nahmen Sophia und ich uns ein Taxi und fuhren zu den Hot Springs von Taupo. Eine tolle Entscheidung denn die Pools waren unheimlich heiss und entspannend und direkt beim Fluss angegliedert. Das heisse Wasser floss in den kalten Fluss. So genossen wir den Abend und spazierten dann gemütlich zurück zum Hostel. Dort hatten wir noch ein gemeinsames Abendessen und liessen die letzen 2 Tage Revue passieren – unheimlich toll, dass wir uns getroffen hatten. Auch die Gruppe war genial, mit der ich unterwegs war im Kiwi Bus – alles in allem einfach eine super tolle Zeit! Time 4 Bed =)

Tongariro-Crossing
It startet very early in the morning – at 5.20h we went off with the bus – It war time for a real epic moment, the spectacular Tongariro Crossing!!
One Hike, 19.4 kilometer, 2 friends, 1 goal: To make it!
The wonderful landscape of «Lord of the Rings» was around us, we startet the hike at 7am and were surrounded by an incredible landscape – the amazing landscape oft he movie and Mordor and the Mount Doom was around us and wonderful. As we headed the peak it was breathtaking. Because we felt so lucky we jumped around (we were the only one’s doing that 😊 haha). After it we had the wonderful lakes surrounding us and the blue lake – short before the ending weh ad our lunch in the sunshine we had bought the night before at the supermarket (Pick’n’Save – by the way a super tip). The last 2 hours were relaxing and so we were back at the busses at half past 2. We fell aslep suddenly 😊 after so much action oft he last days and that mega-hike we were really tired. Back at the hostel we wanted some more relaxation und so Sophia and me took a Taxi to go tot he Hot Springs of Taupo. A perfect decision, the pools were really hot and relaxing and directly located at the river. The hot water flew into the cold one. So we enjoyed the evening and than walked back tot he hostel. There, we had our dinner togehter and left the last days passing revue – amazing that we had met. Also, the group i was on the bus with was genious – all in all a super good time! Time 4 bed =)

Taupo nach River Valley
Heute ging es nochmals in den Tongariro Nationalpark um eine kleine Wanderung zu einem Wasserfall zu machen bevor es weiterging nach River Valley in die River Valley Adventure Lodge.
Wir fuhren Richtung Süden rund um den «grossen See» Richtung Tongariro Nationalpark für ein Picknick-Mittagessen und einen zweistündigen Marsch durch die Landschaft zu den Wasserfällen. Der Nationalpark mit seinen drei aktiven Vulkanen Ngauruhoe, Ruapehu und Tongariro sind zum UNESCO-Weltkultur- und Naturerbe ernannt worden. Die Wanderung war leicht und die Pause beim Wasserfall beeindruckend, eine sehr schöne und mystische Stimmung. Es ging dann weiter mit der Reise zur ultimativen Abenteuer Lodge – River Valley. Diese ist mitten im Nichts umgeben von wundervollen Klippen und buschigen Hügeln. Bei der Lodge ist es möglich ein Rafting auf der Stufe 5 zu machen im Rangitikei Fluss, auch Pferdereiten ist möglich. Natürlich meldete ich mich für den nächsten Morgen zum Rafting an 😊 – den Abend genossen wir aber in Ruhe und es ging gar nicht so spät ins Bett. Schlaf war auch bitter nötig 😊.

Taupo to River Valley
Today we visited Tongariro National Park to enjoy some stunning free walks before arriving at River Valley Adventure Lodge later in the day
We headed south around the “great lake” towards the Tongariro National Park for a picnic lunch and a two hour walk through native bush and waterfalls. The National Park, with its three active volcanoes Ngauruhoe, Ruapehu and Tongariro, has been designated a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
The hike was easy and the break at the waterfall was stunning, a pretty and mystic mood. In the afternoon we travelled through to the ultimate adventure lodge - River Valley, situated amongst towering cliffs and bush-clad hills. The lodge offers grade five rafting on the Rangitikei River, scenic horse riding, and a small golf course. Of course i signed up for the Rafting 😊 – the evening we enjoyed calm and it was not so late for bed as sleep was also reaaaally a nice thing that day 😊

River Valley nach Wellington
Der Morgen startet glücklicherweise nicht zu früh, ich war in der zweiten Gruppe, so ging es um 9 Uhr los mit dem Rafting. Es war richtig lustig, abenteuerlich und auch ein bisschen anstrengend 😊 – aber wir 3 Girls schafften es super!!
Die Fahrt führte uns entlang der Kaipiti. Durch die sanften Hügel voller Rehe, Rinder und Schafe nach Wellington. Die Hauptstadt Neuseelands liegt auf einer schmalen Landenge, eingeschlossen zwischen steilen Hügeln und dem Hafen Te Whanganui-a-Tara (der große Hafen von Tara), an der Cook-Meerenge.

River Valley to Wellington
Luckily the morning does not start too early, I was in the second group, so it started at 9 o'clock with the rafting. It was really funny, adventurous and also a bit exhausting 😊 - but we 3 girls did a great job !!
The drive took us along the Kaipiti through the rolling hills full of deer, cattle and sheep to Wellington. The capital of New Zealand sits on a narrow isthmus, enclosed between steep hills and the port of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (the great port of Tara), on the Cook Strait.

Wellington
Ich stand nicht zu spät auf, denn meinen Zusatztag in Wellington wollte ich geniessen. Ich spazierte bzw. wanderte gleich am Morgen hoch auf den Mount Victoria, angekommen auf der Höhe wurde ich belohnt mit einem unglaublich schönen Ausblick. Beim runterwandern rief ich an bei den Movie-Studios weil ich unbedingt die Lord oft he Rings Tour machen wollte. Ich hatte Glück und konnte mich auf die Tour um 2.15pm buchen und genoss unterwegs noch einen Kaffee.
Der Tourbus kam zum abholen und es waren noch 3 andere dabei. Wir fuhren wiederum zum Mount Victoria und schauten uns die verschiedenen Plätze an, wo bekannte Szenen aus Herr der Ringe gedreht wurden. Toll war, dass wir zu 4 waren und so die Szenen perfekt nachstellen konnten – es war richtig lustig und unser Guide war wirklich genial und unglaublich informiert und selbst ein grosser Fan. Viele Randinfos waren dabei wie z.B., dass bei der Versteck-Szene im Wald echte Insekten extra gebracht wurden und sogar eine giftige Spinne extra aus Australien «eingeflogen» wurde (die dann wieder zurück kam weil man in NZ keine gilftgen Tiere will 😊 hihi). Sie brachte uns dann noch zu den Weta Studios, das war ebenfalls ein absolutes Highlight neben der Tatsache, dass dort auch Special Effects und Material für viele andere ganz coole Movies gemacht wurde. Zurück in der Stadt wollte ich dann trotzdem noch die Cable Car nehmen. Ich liess mich absetzen am Strand und spazierte noch bei schönstem Wetter den Strand entlang, ich kam vorbei Te Papa Museum und war einen kurzen Blick hinein (denn es ist gratis) 😊.
Dann fuhr ich mit der Wellington Cable Car hoch auf den Aussichtspunkt und genoss den Abendspaziergang dort.
Als ich wieder auf dem Rückweg war suchte ich via Google noch die bekannte Cuba Street mit den Rainbow-Crossings (Regenbogen-Zwebrastreifen) und genoss die Atmosphähre dort – wirklich schön. Aber eigentlich war ich auf der Suche nach einem coolen Restaurant um ein echtes Filet Wellington zu Abend zu essen – und ich wurde fündig – und das fast gegenüber von unserem Hostel. Ganz gediegen genoss ich das Filet und liess den Tag in mir Revue passieren. Zwar konnte ich den von meinem Papa empfohlenen Hubschrauberflug leider nicht machen (es war alles ausgebucht) – aber alles in allem war es trotzdem ein geiler Tag!!

Wellington
I did not get up too late because I wanted to enjoy my extra day in Wellington. I walked or hiked in the morning high on Mount Victoria, arrived at the height I was rewarded with an incredible view. While walking down I called the movie studios because I really wanted to do the Lord oft he Rings tour. I was lucky and was able to book the tour at 2.15pm and enjoyed a coffee on the way.
The tour bus came to pick up and there were still 3 others. We drove back to Mount Victoria and looked at the various squares where well-known scenes from Lord of the Rings were filmed. It was great that we were 4 and so could adjust the scenes perfectly - it was really funny and our guide was really awesome and unbelievably informed and even a big fan. Lots of edge info was included, such as that in the hiding scene in the forest real insects were brought extra and even a poisonous spider extra from Australia was "flown" (which came back because you want in NZ no poison animals 😊 hehe).
She then brought us to the Weta Studios, which was also an absolute Highlight beside the fact that special effects and material were made for many other really cool movies. Back in the city, I still wanted to take the cable car. I dropped off on the beach and walked along the beach in beautiful weather, I came by Te Papa Museum and was a quick look inside (because it's free) 😊.
Then I took the Wellington Cable Car up to the viewpoint and enjoyed the evening walk there.
When I was back on the way back I searched via Google still the well-known Cuba Street with the rainbow Crossings (rainbow-Zwebrastreifen) and enjoyed the atmosphere there - really nice. But actually I was looking for a cool restaurant to have a real filet Wellington - and I found it - almost across from our hostel. Very solid I enjoyed the filet and let the day in me review. Although I could not do the helicopter flight recommended by my dad (it was all booked out) - but all in all, it was still a great day !!

Von der Nord- zur Südinsel (von Wellington nach Picton und Abel Tasman)
Fahrt über die atemberaubende Cookstraße in die Küstenstadt Picton und weiter nach Kaiteriteri, wo sich der wunderschöne goldene Sandstrand vor der Haustür befindet.
So, ein Reisetag stand wieder an. Heute ging es um 7:30 Uhr schon los um die Interislander Fähre zu nehmen um von der Nord- zur Südinsel zu gelangen.
Eine traumhafte 3,5- stündige Fährfahrt führte uns über die Cookstraße und durch die Marlborough Sounds nach Picton auf die Südinsel Neuseelands. Die Fahrt ist geprägt von wunderschönen Landschaften und heftigem Wind. Über Havelock und Nelson, einem der größten Wein- und Obstanbaugebiete Neuseelands und ehemaligen Siedlungsgebiet der deutschen Einwanderer, erreichten wir Kaiteriteri.
Kaiteriteri ist das Eingangstor zum Abel Tasman Nationalpark und beliebtester Urlaubsort der Neuseeländer. Wir kamen relativ spät an (wegen Stau) aber konnten noch gemütlich den Abend zusammen geniessen am Strand. Ich musste mich am Abend zudem von meinen Reisefreunden verabschieden, wir waren nun rund eine Woche gemeinsam unterwegs, aber wie das eben so ist bei Kiwi, kann man ja auch mal sagen man bleibt irgendwo länger, und so hatte ich Abel Tasman ausgewählt für eine Zusatznacht. Ich freute mich aufs Ausschlafen und genoss den Abend (und konnte sogar endlich mal ein paar Bilder hochladen). Unser Hostel liegt direkt an einem goldgelben Sandstrand der zum Baden und zu kleinen Wanderungen einlädt.

From North to South Island (from Wellington to Picton and Abel Tasman)
Drive over the breathtaking Cook Strait to the coastal town of Picton and on to Kaiteriteri, where the beautiful golden sand beach is on your doorstep.
So, a day's travel was back. Today we started at 7:30 to take the Interislander ferry to get from the north to the south island.
A fantastic 3.5-hour ferry ride took us across the Cook Strait and through the Marlborough Sounds to Picton on the South Island of New Zealand and is characterized by beautiful landscapes and heavy winds. We reached Kaiteriteri via Havelock and Nelson, one of New Zealand's largest wine and fruit-growing regions and a former settlement area for German immigrants. Kaiteriteri is the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park and New Zealander's favorite vacation spot. We arrived relatively late (due to traffic jams) but could still enjoy the evening together on the beach. I also had to say goodbye to my travel friends in the evening, we were traveling together for about a week now, but as it is at Kiwi one can say that one stays longer, so I chose Abel Tasman for an extra night. I was looking forward to sleeping in and enjoyed the evening (and could even finally upload some pictures). Our hosel is located directly on a golden sandy beach for swimming and small hikes invites.

Abel Tasman Nationalpark
Der besondere Reiz dieses beliebten Nationalparks liegt in seiner landschaftlichen Vielfalt: türkisblaues Meer, sandige Buchten umrahmt von subtropischen Farnwäldern, Steilküsten, breite Flussmündungen und Wasserfälle. Der Tag startete mit einer unschönen Überraschung, Oliver rief mich an und teilte mir mit, dass er einen Unfall hatte. Ich war geschockt, gerade am Vorabend hatte ich mit Sophie noch darüber geredet, wie es ist wenn man weg ist und etwas daheim passiert, und nun traf das ein. Zum ganz grossen Glück hatte Oli nur ein Schleudertrauma (also nur… naja), ein Polizist war ihm hinten ungebremst aufgefahren und so crashte er an der roten Ampel sogar noch ins nächste Auto. Ich war enorm froh, dass nicht mehr passierte und wir telefonierten noch ein wenig.
Ich genoss dann aber den Zusatztag und machte eine Segeltour im Nationalpark, natürlich entlang des bekannten Split Rock. Ich traf eine liebe Österreicherin, Stefanie und ihren Reise-Buddie Nils und gemeinsam mit Caterina aus Italien hatten wir einen wunderschönen Tag der irgendwie endlos schien. Den Abend lies ich gemütlich ausklingen.

Abel Tasman National Park
The special attraction of this popular national park lies in its landscape variety: turquoise-blue sea, sandy bays framed by subtropical fern forests, cliffs, broad estuaries and waterfalls. The day started with an unpleasant surprise, Oliver called me and told me that he had an accident. I was shocked, just the night before, I had talked to Sophie about what it's like to be away and something happens at home, and now that's what happened. Fortunately, Oli had only a whiplash (so ... well), a policeman behind him had unchecked ramped and so he crashed at the red light even in the next car. I was enormously happy that nothing bad had happened and we talked a bit more on the phone.
But anyway then I enjoyed the additional day and did a sailing tour in the national park, of course along the famous Split Rock. I met a nice Austrian, Stefanie and her travel buddy Nils and together with Caterina from Italy we had a wonderful day that somehow seemed endless. I ended the evening comfortably.

Abel Tasman nach Westport
Reise durch schneebedeckte Berge und fantastische Seen auf der Reise in Richtung wilder Westküste.
Wir fingen nicht zu früh an, zum Glück, heute Nachmittag machten wir Halt am legendären Nelson Lakes auf dem Weg nach Westport und einige machten den legendären Werftsprung, bevor wir die Surfstadt Westport erreichten. Ich tat es nicht, weil ich sowieso das Stand-Up-Paddeln machen wollte und einfach die Aussicht genoss und den anderen beim Springen zusehen. Das Paddlig war mein Geburtstag-Paddeln und natürlich genau als wir am See waren und ins Wasser gingen, fing es an zu regnen. Es war eine zweistündige Tour und es war sehr lustig sich vom Board 😊 hihi zu stürzen. Danach gab es leckere Pizza und was für ein glücklicher Zufall, ich traf Stefanie und Nils wieder und zusammen mit unserem brasilianischen Freund Icaru spielten wir ein cooles Kartenspiel namens Shitface - ein großartiger Spaß, den ich erwähnen muss weil das Spiel sehr lustig ist.

Abel Tasman to Westport
Travel through snow-capped mountains and fantastic lakes on your journey towards the wild West Coast.
We startet not to early, this afternoon we stopped at the iconic Nelson Lakes on the way to Westport and some did the legendary wharf jumping shot before hitting surf town Westport. I did not because i wanted to do the Stand-up Paddling anyway and just enjoyed the view and looking the others jumping 😊. The Paddlig was my birthday-Paddling and as soon as we started into the lake it startet raining. It was a two hours tour and weh ad plenty of fun dropping each other oft he board 😊 hihi. After, weh ad Pizza and, lucky me 😊 i met Stefanie and Nils again and together with our Brazilian friend Icaru we played a cool card game called shitface 😊 – great fun i have to mention!

Heute starteten wir unsere Reise über den spektakulären State Highway 6, der 435 Kilometer entlang der rauen Küste von Tasman verläuft. Die Straße schlängelt sich durch verschiedene Landschaften, die immer wieder in Erstaunen versetzen. Zu den Höhepunkten des heutigen Tages gehörten die Robbenkolonie von Cape Foulwind, zerklüftete Strände und die Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. Heute Nacht war die colle Unterkunft die Gelegenheit, ein köstliches Gruppenessen zu genießen und sich mit den Busfreunden zu „verbandeln“. Wir machten einen Zwischenstopp in Greymouth und suchten nach Kostümen für den Abend da es im Historic Mahinapua Hotel Tradition ist, am Abend nach Sonnenuntergang eine Kostümparty zu veranstalten (der Sonnenuntergang übrigens, war unglaublich schön). Vor dem Abendessen machten ich und Caterine noch einen Spaziergang zum Mahinapua-See und zurück ins Hotel. Wir machten eine der berühmten Greenstone-Aktivitäten und machten unsere eigenen Halsketten. Ich machte für meine Mama ein Auge, sie war auch immer eines auf mich und so konnte ich sagen „wir werfen auch immer ein Auge auf dich“ 😊 <3 - danach machte ich eine kurze Entspannungs-Pause im Whirlpool. Auch im Hotel gab es eine Menge cooler Sachen zum Kostümieren, und so gingen wir nach dem Abendessen und dem Sonnenuntergang als Wonder Woman und Clown auf die Party. Wir hatten viel Spaß und genossen den Abend.

Today we started our journey down spectacular State Highway 6, that stretches 435 kilometres along the rugged Tasman shoreline. The road winds through a diverse series of landscapes which never cease to amaze. Highlights today included the Cape Foulwind seal colony walk, rugged beaches, and the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. Tonights unique accommodation was the chance to enjoy a delicious group meal and bond with our bus mates. In fact, we made a stop in Greymouth and were looking for costumes as its a tradition in the Historic Mahinapua Hotel to do a costume party in the evening after sunset (which was by the way amazing at the beach). Before lunch me and Caterine made a walk down to the lake Mahinapua and back at the Hotel, we did one of the famous greenstone activities and we made our own necklaces 😊 i made mine for my mum, an eye so that i can always keep an eye on her as she always did on me 😊 <3 – after that i made a short relax step into the hot tub. Also at the hotel they have provided a lot of cool stuff to costume up and so after the dinner and the sunset i went to the party as Wonder Woman and Caterina as a Clown 😊 we had pretty much fun and enjoyed the evening.

Weiter nach Franz Josef
Weiter geht es entlang der wunderschönen Westküste Neuseelands durch Wälder und vorbei an den hoch aufragenden Südalpen bis zum Gletscherland.
Nach dem Frühstück um 9.30h am Lake Mahinapua machen wir uns auf den Weg nach Franz Josef. Franz Josef ist das nördliche Tor zu Te Wahipounamu, dem Weltkulturerbe im Südwesten Neuseelands. Die Region umfasst Aoraki / Mount Cook, Westland Tai Poutini, Mount Aspiring, die Fiordland National Parks und die umliegenden Naturschutzgebiete.
Die Fahrt führt uns über die verschlafenen Goldgräberstädte Ross und Hari Hari in den UNESCO Weltnaturerbe Westland Nationalpark und in die Ortschaft Franz Josef, am Fuße des gleichnamigen Gletschers. Der Westland N.P. ist Heimat der spektakulären Gletscher Franz Josef und Fox und einer vielfältigen und seltenen Flora und Fauna. Es bietet sich die Möglichkeit zu einem spektakulären Helikopterflug mit Gletscherlandung auf dem Fox Gletscher auf 2.200 m Höhe. Natürlich buchte ich den Helihike für den nächsten Tag sofort 😊.
Der Abend war dann gemütlich, nach einem Sprung in den Whirlpool hiess es erst einmal wieder ein bisschen Arbeiten um am Abend das «Pizza-Fest» zu geniessen. Es wurde immer wieder nachserviert bis alle voll waren und keiner mehr essen konnte 😊 echt toll, wenn die Pizza selbst auch nicht der Überhammer war, aber die Idee war lustig. In einer neuen lustigen Gruppe (Kayleigh, Elaine, Christina – eine Koreanerin deren Name mir gerade nicht einfällt, und ich) genossen wir noch einen Absacker und schafften es sogar die Hütte zum Tanzen zu bringen 😊 – um 11h aber gaben auch wir auf und gingen ins Bett.

Continue along the beautiful West Coast of New Zealand through forests and past the towering Southern Alps to glacier country.
After breakfast at 9.30h at Lake Mahinapua we hit the road on our way to Franz Josef. Franz Josef is the northern gateway to Te Wahipounamu, the Southwest New Zealand World Heritage area. The region includes Aoraki/Mount Cook, Westland Tai Poutini, Mount Aspiring, the Fiordland National Parks, and surrounding conservation lands.
The journey takes us over the sleepy gold mining towns of Ross and Hari Hari into the UNESCO World Heritage Westland National Park and into the village of Franz Josef, at the foot of the glacier of the same name. The Westland N.P. is home to the spectacular glacier Franz Josef and Fox and a diverse and rare flora and fauna. It offers the opportunity for a spectacular helicopter flight with glacier landing on the Fox Glacier at 2,200 m altitude.
Of course I booked the Helihike for the next day immediately 😊. The evening was comfortable, after a dip in the whirlpool, it was once again time to work a bit – but later on we enjoyed the "pizza party" in the evening-location.
It was always served until everyone was full and no one could eat any more 😊 really great, thow the pizza itself was not the best, but the idea was funny. In a new fun group (Kayleigh, Elaine, Christina - a Korean whose name I just cannot remember, and myself) we enjoyed a nightcap and even managed to make the whole place dance 😊 - at 11am we gave up and left to bed.

Franz Josef
So nahe am Gletscher zu sein, ist schon eine sehr schöne Sache. Wir waren für den Heli-Hike angemeldet auf 9.30h und waren, nachdem wir zuerst falsch waren weil der Busfahrer etwas gaaaanz anderes erzählt hatte, dennoch noch pünktlich vor Ort.
Es war bis zum Schluss nicht sicher, ob wir den Heli-Flug machen konnten, oder nicht. Oft werden diese erst ganz kurz davor bestätigt, dies, aufgrund der so rasch wechselnden Wetterlage. Am Tag zuvor wurden 70% der Flüge gestrichen wie ich im Whirlpool von meinen ehemaligen Bus-Kollegen erfahren hatte.
Heute aber hatten wir Glück, nachdem wir alle ordentlich ausgerüstet wurden gingen wir zur Heli-Base und warteten auf unseren Flug. Dann ging es auch schon los, hoch ab in die Lüfte und nach einem ca. 5-minütigen Flug waren wir schon bei der Landestation am Gletscher. Unser Guide, der aussah wie Prince Harry 😊, führte uns gekonnt durch Eis. Der Heli-Hike verdient zwar eigentlich den Namen Wanderung nicht, es ist wohl eher ein Spaziergang, also sehr Seniorenfreundlich (haha) aber schon nur dort zu sein ist unheimlich toll. Also sehr teuer für das was es ist, aber ein einmaliges Erlebnis, absolut klar. Wir waren rund 3 Stunden im Eis unterwegs, sahen einen unglaublich heftigen Wasserfall im Eis und erfuhren vieles rund um den Gletscher. Dann ging es auch wieder zurück – eine Eindrückliche Tour die man so schnell nicht vergisst. Da der Eintritt in den Hot Pools unten bei der Base-Station inklusive war, ging ich natürlich direkt im Anschluss hin und entspannte mich ganze 2 Stunden in den Pools die 36, 38 und 40 Grad hatten, im 36-Grad-Pool schlief ich sogar kurz ein, so tiefenentspannend war dies.
Den Abend nutzte ich für das Hochladen von Fotos aufs One-Drive (immer noch eine Katastrophe) – und das Nachführen des Tagebuchs, irgendwie hinkte ich etwas hinterher. Aber ich freue mich aufs später aber sehr bequeme Bett, denn die Unterkunft war in diesem Fall mal richtig luxuriös, so im Vergleich 😊.

Being so close to the glacier is a very nice thing. We were registered for the Heli-Hike at 9.30h and were, after we were wrong first because the bus driver had told something totally different, but still punctually on site. It was not clear until the final whether forecast if we could make the heli flight or not.
Often these are confirmed very shortly before, because of the so rapidly changing weather conditions. The day before, 70% of the flights were canceled as I had learned in the hot tub from my former bus colleagues. Today, however, we were lucky, after all of us were properly equipped, we went to the helicopter base and waited for our flight. Then it was off, up in the air and after a 5-minute flight we were already at the landingstation on the glacier. Our guide, who looked like Prince Harry 😊, skillfully guided us through the ice. The Heli-Hike does not actually deserve the name hike, it's more of a walk, so very friendly (haha) but just to be there is incredibly great. So very expensive for what it is, but a unique experience, i have to say that absolutely clear. We were in the ice for about 3 hours, saw an incredibly heavy waterfall in the ice and learned a lot around the glacier. Then it went back - an impressive tour that you will not forget so fast. As the entry into the hot pools was included at the bottom of the base station, of course I went directly afterwards and relaxed for 2 hours in the pools which had 36, 38 and 40 degrees, in the 36 degree pool I even slept a bit, so deep relaxation was this. The evening I used for uploading photos on One-Drive (still a disaster) - and the tracking of the diary, somehow I limped a little behind. But I'm looking forward to the later but very comfortable bed, because the accommodation in this case was really luxurious, so in comparison 😊.

Franz Josef nach Wanaka
Reise in die magische Region der Südlichen Seen, um sich am wunderschönen Lake Wanaka zu entspannen.
Wir sind früh losgefahren, um die perfekte Spiegelung des Mt Cook und der Südalpen am Lake Matheson zu sehen.
Eine kurze Fahrt führt uns durch den Westland N.P. nach Fox und zum berühmten Lake Matheson. Die Rundwanderung (ca. 1,5 Std, 2,5 km, leicht) um den Lake Matheson gehört, wegen seiner Spiegelung des Mount Cooks und des Mount Tasmans auf der Seeoberfläche, zu den beliebtesten Wanderunten in Neuseeland. Wir fuhren dann den letzten Abschnitt des Highway 6 entlang und machten an beliebten Aussichtspunkten Halt. Nationalpark, Ankunft am Nachmittag im beeindruckenden Reiseziel Wanaka.
Die Strecke via Haast bietet uns immer neue Panoramablicke auf die tosende Tasmansee. Dann geht es in den Mount Aspiring National Park, wo Sie am Nachmittag das beeindruckende Reiseziel Wanaka erreichen.
Angekommen im Hostel (Base Wanaka) gab es noch einen kleinen Spaziergang bevor es dann einfach mal hiess: Abschalten und ab ins Bett. Leider wieder mit einer Schnarchnase (absoluter Horror).

Franz Josef to Wanaka
Travel to the magical region of the Southern Lakes to relax on beautiful Lake Wanaka.
We left early to see the perfect reflection of Mt Cook and the Southern Alps at Lake Matheson.
A short drive takes us through the Westland N.P. to Fox and the famous Lake Matheson. The circular walk (approximately 1.5 hours, 2.5 km, easy) around Lake Matheson is one of New Zealand's most popular hikes due to its reflection of Mount Cook and Mount Tasmans on the lake surface. We then drove along the last stretch of Highway 6 and stopped at popular viewpoints. National Park, arrival in the afternoon in the impressive destination Wanaka.
The route via Haast offers us always new panoramic views of the roaring Tasman Sea. Then head to Mount Aspiring National Park, where in the afternoon you will reach the impressive destination of Wanaka.
Arrived at the hostel (Base Wanaka) there was a little walk before it was then time to shut down and off to bed. Unfortunately again with a snore nose (absolute horror).

Wanaka
Den Morgen startete ich gemütlich im Hostel am PC um mal wieder Tagebuch nachzuführen. Gegen 13.30h machte ich mich mich Sack und Pack auf den Weg in das nahegelegene YHA-Hostel, da Base ja ausgebucht war für die Folgenacht. Zwar hatte es sich inzwischen wieder geändert, aber eigentlich war ich ganz froh weg zu sein, denn die Base Hostels sind halt nicht immer das wahre, vor allem was die Sauberkeit betrifft. Dafür war ich dann umso mehr verblüfft wie schön YHA war, wir hatten sogar eine eigene Kèche im Zimmer, ein purer Luxus neben der Tatsache, dass wir ein eigenes Bad hatten und alles sehr, sehr sauber war.
Ich wollte dann noch raus und mietete ein Fahrrad, bzw. Mountain-Bike um eine Runde zu fahren, ich fuhr erchs dem See entlang und konnte es kaum glauben wie scön es war. Ich sah einen absoluten Kinder- und Jugendtraum, eine paar Schaukeln die an Trauerweiden hingen und im Wind etwas wippten. Ich musste tatsächlich ein paar Minuten innehalten um diesen Anblick zu geniessen. Rund 2 Stunden später war ich wieder im Hostel und beschloss kurzerhand noch die Bootstour zu machen. Es gab ein Angebot für eine einstündige Abend-Drink-Fahrt und so genoss ich in einer sehr kleinen Gruppe mit einem Pärchen aus Australien sowie einem älteren Paar aus den USA bei einem Glas Weisswein und einer Käse- und Snack-Platte die schöne Fahrt auf dem See. Ich freute mich schon aufs Bett, denn am nächsten Moergen wollte ich die Roys Peak Sunrise-Wanderung machen. Diese scheint sehr beliebt zu sein und auch Sophia hatte sie mir empfohlen. Zwar gibt es keine offizielle Organisation, aber im Hostel Base liegt jeweils eine Liste auf, bei der man sich einfach eintragen kann und dann werden entsprechend Shuttles organisiert um zum Aufstiegsort zu kommen. Zu Fuss wäre es nochmals zusätzlcih eine Stunde und vor allem wollten wir es unbedingt auf unseren Bus schaffen. Etwas doof fand ich, dass eigentlich, wenn wir den Bus nicht erwischen, der Platz freigegeben wird, wir schauten, dass wir den Busfahrern sagen konnten, auf uns zu warten und, sollten wir es nicht schaffen, dass wir spätestens beim halt bei Puzling-World zur Gruppe stossen würden. Wir waren aber recht sicher, dass wir es schaffen würden. Ich hatte noch via facebook Ellis gefunden, die die Wanderung mit mir machen wollte da ich vorher nicht wusste, dass es organisiert war. Glücklicherweise war dies dann aber richtig toll, wie sich am nächsten Tag herausstellen sollte – jedenfalls traf ich sie sogar noch kurz zufällig, als sie sich gerade bei Base eintrug in die Liste 😊.

Wanaka
The morning I started comfortably in the hostel on the laptop to keep track with my diary. At about 1.30pm, I made my way to the nearby YHA hostel, because Base was fully booked for the following night. Although actually I was very happy to be away, because the Base hostels are just not always the true, especially in terms of cleanliness. But then I was even more amazed how beautiful YHA was, we even had our own kitchen in the room, a sheer luxury besides the fact that we had our own bathroom and everything was very, very clean.
I still wanted to get out and rented a mountain bike for a lap, I drove erchs along the lake and could hardly believe how nice it was. I saw an absolute childhood and youth dream, a few swings hanging on weeping willows and bobbing in the wind. I actually had to pause for a few minutes to enjoy the sight. About 2 hours later, I was back at the hostel and decided unceremoniously to do the boat tour. There was an offer for a one hour evening drink ride and so I enjoyed a nice trip on a very small group with a couple from Australia and an older couple from the US over a glass of white wine and a cheese and snack platter Lake. I was already looking forward to the bed, because next morning I wanted to do the Roys Peak Sunrise hike. This seems to be very popular and also Sophia recommended it to me. Although there is no official organization, but in the hostel Base is in each case a list, in which one can simply register and then shuttles are organized to get to the Ascension site. On foot it would be an extra hour and above all we wanted to make it on our bus. Somewhat stupid, I found that if we did not catch the bus, the space would actually be cleared, we could see that we could tell the bus drivers to wait for us and, if we could not make it, we would at least stop at Puzling World would join the group. But we were pretty sure we could do it. I had found via facebook Ellis, who wanted to do the walk with me because I did not know before that it was organized. Fortunately, this was really great, as it turned out the next day - in any case, I met her even by chance, just when she was at Base at the list 😊.
